ICAN Sokoto, District Society commits to professionalism as it installs new executives

History was again recorded at the weekend in Sokoto when the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Sokoto and District Society installed its new Chairman, 2026/2027, Mr Adeboye Oluwakayode Daniel and eleven other executives.
Our Correspondent in Sokoto reports that the theme of the event was,’ Accounting Beyond Borders; Strengthening Professional Leadership in an Era of Geopolitics and Regional Integration’.
According to Mr Mathew Ayinla, the Chairman of the Investiture Committee, the theme aptly captures the evolving responsibilities of professional accountants in an increasingly interconnected world.
He said, ” As global economic realities continue to reshape business, governance, and public policy, accountants must remain at the forefront of ethical stewardship, innovation and sustainable growth.”
In his acceptance speech, Mr Adeboye Oluwakayode Daniel, commended his colleagues for reposing tremendous confidence in them, pledging never to let them down in the discharge of their arduous duties.
Daniel further vowed to serve the profession with excellence, integrity and purpose, adding that the event marked the beginning of a renewed commitment to serve with humility and diligence as the 7th Chairman of ICAN, Sokoto and District Society.
According to Daniel, he considers the office not as a symbol of prestige but as a a sacred trust bestowed upon him by his respected colleagues.
At the event, Sokoto State Government pledged to take proactive steps to ensure more Accountants in the state are enrolled as members of the prestigious Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN.
The Deputy Accountant General of the state, Alhaji Junaidu Usman Junaidu, who gave the assuramce at the epochal ceremony, was.also conferred with the “Award of Excellence” by the Sokoto and District Society of ICAN.
Addressing newsmen after receiving the award, Junaidu said the state government under the leadership of the indefatigable Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto is unwaveringly committed to building capacity in the public finance sector.
“I am assuring the people of Sokoto State, In sha Allah, His Excellency will do all he can to ensure that more people from Sokoto State are enrolled into the membership of ICAN,” he said.
On the significance of the award, the DAG described it as a call to greater service and a morale booster to uphold the principles of accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.
He noted that professionalism among Accountants is key to achieving the goals of the present administration, especially in line with Gov. Ahmed Aliyu’s 9-Point Smart Agenda.
Junaidu further urged young Accountants in the state to take advantage of government support to pursue professional qualifications, stressing that ICAN membership will enhance service delivery and strengthen financial discipline in the state.
The “Award of Excellence” by the Sokoto and District Society of ICAN was in recognition of his outstanding invaluable contributions to the accounting profession and to public service in Sokoto State.
