Sokoto Police foil bandits’ attack, recover magazines, ammunition

The Sokoto State Police Command said it has recorded huge successes in its ongoing fight against banditry, following a successful operation carried out on 25th July 2026 at about 2030hrs along Bodinga Local Government Area of the State.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Sokoto by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Ahmed Rufai.
According to the statement, a distress call was received from a good Samaritan reporting that a large number of armed bandits, wielding sophisticated weapons, were attacking Tauma Village in Bodinga LGA.
It added, “In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) immediately mobilized all tactical teams, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the VCRU (Violence Crime Response Unit), to the scene.
” The joint security teams engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun battle that lasted for some time.
“The bandits were overpowered by the superior firepower of the security forces and fled into the nearby forest with gunshot wounds.
“A thorough search of the bushes and surrounding area led to the recovery of various items.”
The statement listed the items to include five magazines containing fourty rounds of live ammunition
It continued,” The Command is pleased to report that no casualties were recorded on the side of the joint security teams or among the villagers during the encounter.
“Confidence-building patrols are currently ongoing in the area to reassure residents and maintain public safety.
“Additionally, all neighboring police divisions have been placed on alert and directed to be on the lookout for any injured hoodlums who may attempt to seek medical attention or hide within their jurisdictions.
“Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons, particularly those with visible injuries, to the nearest police station or security agency.”
