Fresh Blow to ADC as Thousands of Supporters Defect to APC in Sokoto LGA

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded another major political gain in Sokoto East Senatorial District as thousands of supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), mostly from Gorau Town in Goronyo Local Government Area, defected to the ruling party.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Sokoto, Bashar Abubakar, Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, to Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
The reception ceremony, held in Gorau/Takakume Ward, was attended by APC leaders and supporters from across the area.
Speaking at the event, the APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Sokoto East, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Sarkin Alaru, welcomed the defectors and assured them of equal opportunities within the party. He commended Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau, Senior Special Assistant, for his dedication to the welfare of the people.
Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau attributed the growing acceptance of the APC to the people-centred policies and developmental projects of Gov. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto and Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
He also highlighted the government’s efforts to improve security and combat banditry across the state.
The APC Chairman in Goronyo Local Government Area, Alhaji Sa’idu Muhammad Goronyo, urged the new members to remain committed to strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Nasiru Mukhtar Gorau said they joined the APC because of the government’s achievements in infrastructure development and the provision of social amenities, especially in rural communities.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Alhaji Hussaini N. Umar Gorau, and the APC Senatorial Candidate for Sokoto East, Alhaji Umar Ajiya, in recognition of their contributions to the growth and development of the area.
