A veteran journalist and respected public affairs commentator, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Yelwa, Ajiyan Yelwa, has praised the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, describing him as a compassionate, sincere, and trustworthy leader whose style of governance has restored public confidence in government and accelerated development across the state within his three years in office.

Speaking during an interview in Abuja recently, Alhaji Yelwa observed that Governor Idris has distinguished himself through honesty, openness, and consistent engagement with the people at a time when public trust in leadership has become increasingly important.

According to him, the Governor’s close relationship with the people and his willingness to communicate with all segments of society have earned him widespread admiration beyond what government officials may say.

Alhaji Yelwa, who is also the Chairman of the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum, a coalition of over 100 radio and television station proprietors across Nigeria, as well as a former Commissioner for Information and the proprietor of Bayawura FM, Yauri, noted that Governor Idris has successfully united Kebbi State by carrying leaders and stakeholders along, irrespective of political or regional differences.

He said the Governor has entrenched the principles of fairness and equity in governance, stressing that while Birnin Kebbi remains the historic seat of leadership in the state, every part of the state now enjoys a stronger sense of belonging through the equitable distribution of development projects and opportunities.

“A leader who is identified as honest and sincere stands to gain more. I believe this is where His Excellency ranks the highest.

“Kaura, as we all know, is a very compassionate and sincere leader. I also believe he is open to accepting responsibility whenever necessary.

“Kebbi is a simple state, yet it has its complexities. I have served in government and understand its dynamics. Since he assumed office, he has been able to hold the state together,” he said.

Alhaji Yelwa particularly commended the Governor’s commitment to the development of Yauri Emirate and other parts of Kebbi South, explaining that the administration has initiated and executed projects that have strengthened the people’s confidence in government.

He also applauded Governor Idris for supporting the Kebbi Development Elders Forum’s Security Summit, which attracted the Sultan of Sokoto and leading security experts. He described the Governor’s prompt support for the initiative as further evidence of visionary leadership.

Assessing the administration’s performance, Alhaji Yelwa rated Governor Idris highly in the education sector, noting that his background as a professional teacher has positively influenced policies aimed at improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening the educational system.

He said the Governor’s commitment to human capital development has continued to inspire confidence among education stakeholders across the state.

He also commended the remarkable improvements recorded in the health and infrastructure sectors, citing the renovation of the General Hospital in Yauri and similar interventions across the state.

According to him, the completion of major public infrastructure and road projects, alongside other developmental initiatives, clearly demonstrates Governor Idris’ determination to improve the quality of life of the people despite prevailing economic challenges.

The veteran journalist further acknowledged the Governor’s achievements in agriculture and poverty reduction, describing the recent distribution of fertilisers and other agricultural inputs to thousands of farmers as a timely intervention that will boost food production and support rural livelihoods.

He, however, encouraged the administration to sustain such programmes in view of the country’s prevailing economic realities.

While urging the people of Kebbi State to continue supporting and praying for their Governor, Alhaji Yelwa advised citizens to complement government efforts through constructive engagement and effective communication.

He maintained that Governor Nasir Idris has laid a solid foundation for sustainable development and expressed confidence that, if the current pace of inclusive governance and people-oriented programmes is sustained, the Governor will leave an enduring legacy in the history of Kebbi State.
