Sokoto: Police nab 3 suspected motorcycle thieves, recover motorcycles, master keys

The Strike Force Unit of the Sokoto State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with motorcycle theft and the unlawful possession of stolen property, following a credible tip-off from a concerned citizen in the Gidan Igwai area.
This was contained in a statement signed by the spokesperson of the Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, issued in Sokoto on Monday.
It said, “On May 23, 2026, at about 10:00 AM, the Unit received intelligence regarding criminal activity in the vicinity. Acting swiftly on the information, officers launched a coordinated raid across multiple locations, including Kano Road, Runjim Sambo, Gidan Dare, and the Gidan Man Ada area.
“During the operation, operatives apprehended Yahuza Abubakar ‘M’, of Darna Village via Wamakko Local Government Area.
” Following his arrest and subsequent interrogation at the station, Abubakar confessed to stealing one red Kasea motorcycle, which he then sold to an accomplice.
“The investigation led officers to Alhaji Samaila Aliyu ‘M’of the Gidan Igwai area, who was taken into custody for receiving the stolen red Kasea motorcycle.
“Further inquiry revealed that Aliyu had also come into possession of one ash-colored Haojue motorcycle. Both the red Kasea and the ash Haojue were recovered from him.
“Aliyu subsequently confessed to have sold the stolen red Kasea motorcycle to Ahmed Abdullahi “M” of the Gawon Nama area. Officers recovered the red Kasea motorcycle from Abdullahi, who was also arrested.”
According to the statement, the items recovered included one red Kasea motorcycle, one ash-colored Haojue motorcycle and two master keys, believed to have been used in the thefts.
The statement said that investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspects are linked to other thefts in the region.
It added, “All three suspects remain in custody and will be charged upon the conclusion of the investigation.”
