APC Reps Candidate Rehabilitates Sifawa-Shagari-Yabo Power Line, Pays N150m Advance

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency for the 2027 general elections, Prof. Musa Garba Maitafsir, has embarked on the rehabilitation of the Sifawa-Shagari-Yabo power supply line.
Our Correspondent reports that the two local government areas have been without electricity for over six years following the vandalization of the power supply line by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.
This was after a myriad of failed promises to revamp the all-important electricity power line.
The dearth of electricity has hampered socio-economic activities in hundreds of communities in both Yabo and Shagari LGAs for over six years.
Prof. Maitafsir has made an advance payment of N150 million to the contracting firm handling the project, with the firm pledging to complete the rehabilitation in less than a month.
Speaking at the historic flag-off ceremony, Prof. Maitafsir said he embarked on the project to alleviate the prolonged suffering of residents of the two local governments.
He said, “We have suffered for too long due to the dearth of electricity after the power line was vandalized. I have already paid N150 million to the contracting company and I will logically complete the project at whatever cost.”
The university don appealed to the people of the area to guard the power line against future vandalism.
The importance of electricity to community development cannot be overemphasized. Electricity is the backbone of modern socio-economic life.
Its restoration will revive small and medium scale enterprises such as welding, tailoring, cold-room businesses, grinding machines and ICT centres that collapsed due to blackout.
In the health sector, primary health centres and general hospitals in Yabo and Shagari will now be able to preserve vaccines, drugs and operate essential medical equipment, while schools will benefit from improved learning through the use of computers, laboratories and evening classes.
The project will also enhance security through street lighting, improve water supply through powered boreholes, boost agricultural value chains through preservation and processing, and reduce rural-urban migration by making the communities more liveable and economically viable.
Upon completion in less than a month as pledged by the contracting firm, the rehabilitated line is expected to reconnect hundreds of communities, restore commercial activities, create jobs, reduce cost of doing business occasioned by reliance on generators, and rekindle social life and economic hope of the people.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Finance, Engr. Muhammad Jabbi Shagari, and the Chairman of Shagari Local Government Area, Barrister Maidawa Kajiji, commended the candidate for executing the invaluable project.
A cross-section of APC leaders, elders and stakeholders also lauded Prof. Maitafsir, noting that the project would bolster socio-economic development of the two LGAs and end years of darkness and economic stagnation.
