Tragedy in Sokoto as youth allegedly crushes traditional ruler to death

Tragedy struck on Wednesday in the Gagi Area of Sokoto metropolis, Sokoto South Local Government Area, when a young boy allegedly crushed a traditional title holder, Alhaji Bello Hassan ( Magajin Garin Gagi) to death.

Our Correspondent in Sokoto reliably gathered that the incident occurred when the suspect, and his brother, were reportedly racing in their various vehicles, en route the venue of a horse racing event in the outskirts of Gagi town.

According to findings, the duo were said to be the sons of another top-notch traditional title holder in Sokoto, Alhaji Bello Mayana ( Mayanan Sokoto).

Eye witnesses who described the incident as very horrific, said the body of the deceased was totally mutilated and fragmented into three different parts.

It was further gathered that the remains of the deceased who was said to be returning from farm were said to have been taken to a hospital by the operatives of the Unguwar Rogo Police Division in Sokoto city.

The remains of the deceased were however said to be later in the same day released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.

Reacting to the ugly development, the District Head of Gagi ( Sarkin Yakin Gagi), Alhaji Sani Umar Jabbi, expressed regret with the obnoxious incident, urging that justice must be ensured for the family of the deceased.

The spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai,.who confirmed the incident, said, “it is at the Unguwar Rogo Division but it will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), for discreet investigation.”
