Sokoto ADC governorship candidate mourns Usama Murtala who died in Ivory Coast after detention

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya (Walin Sokoto), has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Usama Murtala, a young indigene of Sokoto State who died in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, shortly after regaining his freedom from detention.
Hon. Dan’iya described the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy that has brought immense grief not only to the immediate family of the deceased but also to the people of Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.
In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, the ADC gubernatorial candidate extended his heartfelt condolences to the parents, siblings, relatives, friends, and associates of the late Usama Murtala, praying the Almighty Allah to grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
According to Hon. Dan’iya, the story of the late Usama is a painful reminder of the sacrifices and risks many young Nigerians undertake in search of better economic opportunities beyond the country’s borders.
“It is deeply painful that a young man who left home with dreams, aspirations, and hope for a better future could lose his life under such tragic circumstances.
“His death is not only a loss to his family but also to Sokoto State and Nigeria, where our youths represent the promise of tomorrow,” he said.
The ADC gubernatorial candidate commended the efforts of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Ivory Coast and the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in securing the release of the detained Nigerians, while expressing sadness that the intervention came too late to save the life of Usama Murtala.
He also sympathized with the other young Nigerians who survived the ordeal and prayed for their full recovery from the emotional and psychological trauma they experienced during their detention.
Hon. Dan’iya urged.the relevant authorities to continue pursuing justice and ensuring that the circumstances surrounding the detention and death of the late Usama are fully investigated through appropriate diplomatic channels.
“The protection and welfare of Nigerian citizens, whether at home or abroad, must remain a national priority. Every Nigerian deserves dignity, justice, and consular protection regardless of where they may find themselves,” he stated.
He further called on young Nigerians who intend to travel abroad in search of livelihood opportunities to always ensure that they comply with the laws of their destination countries, make use of legitimate migration channels, and maintain contact with Nigerian diplomatic missions whenever necessary.
Hon. Dan’iya reaffirmed his commitment to supporting policies that create employment opportunities, promote entrepreneurship, and expand economic prospects for young people within Sokoto State, stressing that no youth should be compelled by hardship to undertake uncertain journeys in pursuit of survival.
He prayed that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of the late Usama Murtala, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, comforts his grieving family, and gives strength to all those affected by this painful loss.
“May the Almighty console the family of the deceased, protect the surviving young men, and grant lasting peace to every family mourning loved ones lost in search of a better future. May Allah make this tragedy a lesson for all of us and inspire greater efforts towards protecting the lives and aspirations of our young people.”
