Gov. Idris Flags Off Distribution of Presidential Emergency Food Intervention

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has flagged off the distribution of the Presidential Emergency Food Intervention for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Shanga LGA and food baskets donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), to vulnerable households across the state.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Idris expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians through humanitarian interventions. He also commended the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their continued generosity and support to people affected by hardship and humanitarian challenges.
The Governor noted that Kebbi State has consistently benefited from interventions by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and KSrelief, describing both organisations as dependable partners in providing timely assistance to citizens in need. He said the intervention would bring relief to thousands of vulnerable families across the state and complement the efforts of the state government in improving the welfare of its people.
Governor Idris urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the food items for the benefit of their households and cautioned against selling the relief materials. He stressed that the assistance was intended to alleviate the hardship faced by vulnerable families and appealed to community leaders and security agencies to ensure that the items reach the intended beneficiaries.
Earlier, the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, represented by the Director of Special Duties, Hajiya Fatima Suleiman Kassim, disclosed that KSrelief had donated 24,302 food baskets for distribution to vulnerable households in Kebbi, Benue, Anambra, Yobe, and Taraba States. She explained that Kebbi State received 4,399 food baskets under the programme for households that had already been profiled.
Mrs. Umar commended the longstanding humanitarian partnership between NEMA and KSrelief, noting that previous interventions by the Saudi-based humanitarian organisation had provided critical assistance to internally displaced persons and other vulnerable groups in Kebbi State.
She assured stakeholders that the distribution exercise would be conducted transparently and in accordance with established accountability standards through collaboration among NEMA, the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and trained volunteers.
The NEMA Director-General also used the occasion to sensitise residents on the need to take precautionary measures against flooding as the rainy season intensifies. She urged communities to heed early warning advisories, clear drainage channels, and support efforts aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness and resilience.
The event featured the symbolic presentation of food items to selected beneficiaries and was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, humanitarian partners, community representatives, and other stakeholders.
