Tragedy: Suspected Bandits Kill ASP, 70-Year-Old Man in Kebbe LGA, Sokoto

Tragedy struck late Monday night in Kurya village of Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State as suspected bandits killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Hussaini Balarabe and a 70-year-old man, Bala Wakili.
Our Correspondent in Sokoto reports that another resident, Salisu Bala, was injured during the attack and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The Spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the incident. He said the bandits also razed a Police patrol van and a vehicle belonging to the Community Guards Corps.
According to Rufai, crack teams of the Police and the Community Guards Corps jointly responded to distress calls from residents following an incursion by the suspected bandits.
The Police spokesperson said the bandits struck the community with the intention of rustling cattle.
He stated: “However, their mission was aborted by the swift intervention of the Police and the Community Guards Corps, hence the cattle and other livestock dispersed into the nearby forests.
“We are also happy that the bandits had also recorded some heavy casualties although their number could not be immediately ascertained as they also fled into the forests.
“However, they are being trailed with a view to apprehending them to face the appropriate justice.”
DSP Rufai further disclosed that the remains of the deceased police officer have been deposited in an undisclosed hospital for autopsy.
The attack has renewed calls by residents of Kebbe and other border communities for increased security presence to curb banditry in the state.
