Ex-NUJ Sokoto Chairman urges media owners to invest in training of staff

Private Media Proprietors have been called upon to invest in the training and re-training of their staff to ensure qualitative output for the benefit of their teeming listeners.

A former Chairman of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Muhammad Abdullahi Sokoto on the sideline of a One Day Workshop organized by the Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

Muhammad Abdullahi Sokoto who described the seminar with the theme; Accurate Judicial Reporting: and Responsible News Writing as both timely and apt, commended the Council for its wisdom and foresight in organizing this and other similar workshops aimed at updating performance capacity of members.

According to him, Media Proprietors especially the private owned media stations has the responsibility of the training and the retraining of their staff to ensure qualitative service delivery to the listeners to sustain their confidence and trust.

He noted that, media profession requires updating the knowledge of practitioners to keep them in tune with the modern technology and the dynamic nature of the profession in the evolving daily events in a rapidly growing society.

Muhammad Abdullahi Sokoto who was a former Manager, News and Current Affairs Department with the State Media Corporation posited that, the training of Staff is the primary responsibly of the Proprietors of such organization and Nigeria Union of Journalist is just playing a complementary role.

He applauded the proprietors for providing our youth with employment opportunity as their contributions to the development of the state in human capital and economically.

The former Chairman also commended staff of the private organizations for their dedication and sacrifices in delivering qualitative and educative services in spite of the challenges and lack of adequate training.

He urged them to emulate the Sokoto State Government which had since its inception embarked on vigorous training of staff and the re-engineering of its owned electronic media, Sokoto State Media Corporation so that together they can move the State forward.
