FRSC flags off ‘Daidaita Lodi’ special patrol to tackle crashes in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a special intervention patrol, codenamed “Daidaita Lodi” (Load Limit), aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and enforcing compliance with traffic regulations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
The operation, flagged off on Monday at the RS10 Headquarters in Sokoto by the Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Shoba B. Akande, forms part of a nationwide initiative approved by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, to address road safety challenges unique to the country’s 12 FRSC zonal commands.
Addressing journalists at the ceremony, Akande said the intervention would focus on curbing major causes of road crashes through stricter enforcement of traffic laws, sustained public enlightenment, stakeholder engagement, improved rescue preparedness and enhanced operational visibility.
“The Special Intervention Patrol is being carried out simultaneously across all the 12 zonal commands of the Corps to tackle the peculiar road safety challenges within their respective jurisdictions,” he said.
He explained that the RS10 Command adopted the code name “Daidaita Lodi” because overloading remains one of the leading causes of fatal crashes within the zone.
According to him, the initiative is strategically designed to achieve a measurable reduction in road traffic crashes by targeting dangerous traffic violations that continue to claim lives on Nigerian roads.
Representing Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the event, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Bala Kokani, officially declared the operation open and urged motorists, commercial drivers and transport operators to support the campaign by obeying traffic rules.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. Government, transport unions and every road user must work together by complying with traffic regulations to reduce crashes and save lives,” Kokani said.
He commended the FRSC leadership for introducing the initiative, expressing confidence that it would improve safety on highways across the country.
Also speaking, the Iyan Sokoto, Alhaji Aminu Bala Dodo, who represented the Sultan of Sokoto, reaffirmed the Sultanate Council’s commitment to supporting the FRSC in promoting road safety.
He urged transport union leaders to cooperate fully with the Corps to ensure safe, orderly and hitch-free movement of passengers and goods, while offering prayers for the success of the operation.
In his vote of thanks, the Zonal Head of Operations, Corps Commander A.Y. Rafi, expressed appreciation to the Corps Marshal for approving the intervention patrol and lauded ACM Akande for providing the leadership that ensured its successful launch.
The “Daidaita Lodi” operation is expected to intensify enforcement against overloading and other traffic offences along the Sokoto–Gusau corridor and other major highways within the RS10 Zone, with the goal of reducing crashes and improving the safety of all road users.
