From Bashir Rabe Mani in Sokoto
Alhaji Umaru Ajiya, the Ajiyan Isa and immediate past Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of NNPCL Ltd, has called on security forces in the country to adopt an offensive approach to end banditry and other violent crimes.
Ajiya addressed newsmen in Sokoto on Saturday, saying Nigeria can no longer afford a reactive security posture.
The APC.Sokoto East Senatorial candidate for the 2027 general elections said recent attacks across the country showed the need for a new strategy.
“We must take the war to the criminals in their hideouts.
“This defensive approach is no longer working. Our security forces need better intelligence, better equipment, and the political will to dominate,” he said.
Ajiya further promised to prioritize security, if elected to the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the 2027 general elections.
He also vowed to push for significantly increased budgetary allocations for the military, police, and other security agencies.
Similarly, the Ajiyan Isa pledged to work to ensure that once security funds are appropriated, they are released early to avoid delays in operations.
Accordingly, he promised to leverage Senate oversight functions to ensure the judicious utilisation of all funds appropriated for security agencies and block leakages.
He remarked, “My experience as CFO of NNPCL taught me how to track money. Nigerians deserve to know that every kobo voted for security is actually used to protect lives and property,” he stated.
The Ajiyan Isa also linked insecurity to unemployment and poverty, further pledging to attract federal projects and jobs to Sokoto to cut off the recruitment pool for criminals.
The former NNPCL Ltd top official also extolled Gov. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto”s huge investments in security infrastructure and funding across the state, saying that he has been unrelenting in complementing the efforts of the Federal Government in this direction.
Alhaji Umaru Ajiya also applauded the giant strides recorded by the Governor in the last three years, averring, ” he came fully fully prepared for the top job of being the number one citizen of the state.
“Consequently, he is really performing very well, so far, so far. I am happy with this happy development.”
