Police vow justice for mother of four lynched in Marabar Jos over alleged child theft attempt

The Nigeria Police Force High Command has vowed to ensure justice for a mother of four who was beaten and burnt to death on Sunday in Marabar Jos, Kaduna State, after some residents raised a false alarm accusing her of attempting to steal a child.
Eyewitnesses said the woman was spotted near a school at closing time. Shouts of “yan garkuwa da yara” drew a mob that descended on her and beat her to death before security agents arrived. She died from injuries sustained in the attack.
The Kaduna State Police Command had confirmed the incident and condemned mob action.
“Our preliminary findings show the allegation was false. We appeal to the public to alert security agencies instead of taking the law into their own hands,” the Command’s spokesperson, Mansur Hassan, said.
Community leaders in Marabar Jos have called for urgent sensitization against jungle justice, noting that false rumors have triggered similar violence in parts of Kaduna and its border LGAs.
The victim, a mother of four, has been buried according to Islamic rites. Her children are now left in the care of relatives.
Addressing newsmen in Sokoto on Monday, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) In charge of Administration and Finance, Dr Suleiman Muhammad Abdul said that the Police High Command was also concerned with the obnoxious development.
He said, “The matter will be thoroughly investigated and anybody found wanting will not be spared.
“Anybody who acts or go against the principles of the job is going to be shown the way out.
“The IGP is very serious about it and we are also serious about it.
“So, no bad egg will have a place in the Police anymore and we implore you that if you have any information on anything please tell us,you can through the CP or through the IG
“But, if we do anything good, please tell the public. Thank you.”
