SUBEB Chairman lauds Gov. Aliyu, Urges Teachers to Justify Welfare Gains

The Executive Chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, has called on primary school teachers across the state to rise to the occasion and fully commit themselves to their professional responsibilities.

He emphasized that this is necessary as a mark of appreciation for the efforts of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto in restoring the dignity of teachers, particularly through the significant improvement of their salaries from ₦18,000 to ₦70,000 to align with other workers in the country.

He made this statement when newly elected Executive Members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) from the 23 Local Government Areas paid him a courtesy visit at his office last week.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the NUT Chairman of Dange Shuni Local Government, Comrade Idris Bello, stated that their visit was to express appreciation and gratitude for the support and contributions of the SUBEB Chairman, Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, toward the success of their emergence ahead of their second tenure.

He further described Alhaji Tambuwal as a man of integrity who values promise keeping and demonstrates commitment to his responsibilities, noting that such qualities are rare in today’s world.

Comrade Bello also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the initiatives of the SUBEB Chairman aimed at introducing new strategies for improving basic education, in line with Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto’s vision of revitalizing the education sector across the state.

He added that they would collaborate with Education Secretaries in their respective local governments and the state NUT leadership to develop mechanisms for monitoring teachers and ensuring effective service delivery in line with their dutie.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman urged the newly elected leaders to support the administration of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto and contribute meaningfully to ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of teachers across the state.

Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal further noted that the Governor has prioritized education, evident in the various initiatives undertaken, including improved teachers’ welfare, salary enhancement, provision of working tools such as vehicles, motorcycles, computers, and modern communication devices, as well as improved learning environments with adequate furniture and teaching materials all aimed at delivering sound and quality education to students in the state.

He also urged the leaders to remain law abiding, adhere to government policies and programmes, and work closely with relevant stakeholders to develop new strategies for advancing basic education in Sokoto State.

The meeting was attended by the SUBEB Secretary, Alhaji Mamuda Ahmad Wamakko, Board Members, Directors, and other principal officers of the Board.
