SOKOTO STATE POLICE COMMAND HOLDS STRATEGIC SECURITY MEETING, REINFORCES COMMITMENT TO 2027 ELECTION PREPAREDNESS AND PUBLIC SAFETY

The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa,psc, mnips has convened a high-level strategic meeting with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Heads of Departments (HODs), Tactical Commanders, and the management team to review and strengthen the Command’s security architecture.

The meeting, held at the Command Headquarters, focused extensively on the Command’s preparations ahead of the 2027 electioneering campaigns, the need to bolster security during the Ember months, and the reactivation of enforcement operations.

In his address, CP Shaffa emphasized the importance of proactive and intelligence-led policing. He charged officers to redouble their efforts in dismantling criminal networks through targeted raids, regular patrols, and robust intelligence gathering. He highlighted the following critical areas:

· Operation Velvet and Road Safety: The meeting reinforced the reactivation of Operation Velvet, aimed at enforcing traffic regulations to curb dangerous driving, particularly the “one-way” menace, which has been identified as a major cause of fatal accidents in the state. Motorists are advised to ensure proper vehicle registration and valid tinted permits.
· Incivility and Professionalism: CP Shaffa issued a stern warning against incivility to members of the public. He stressed the importance of professional conduct, respect for human rights, and discipline in the discharge of duties. He emphasized strict adherence to the rules governing the use of firearms as stipulated in Force Order 237.
· Community Engagement: The Commissioner underscored the need for deepened community engagement and collaboration with stakeholders, recognizing its contribution to public confidence and effective crime prevention.
· Intelligence-Led Operations: The Command is intensifying intelligence-led raids and operations to curb banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes. This includes the deployment of tactical units like the VCRU and Anti-Kidnapping Unit to ensure the safety of lives and property across the State.

Reaffirming the Command’s dedication to a secure and peaceful Sokoto State, CP Shaffa urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The Command continues to warn criminals that they will be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice.
