Youths in Sokoto State have been urged to uphold good characters and serve as responsible ambassadors in the society.
The call was made in Sokoto at an award presentation organised by the 10 Youths Forum to honour individuals for their contributions to youth development in the state.
The Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Sulaiman Muhammad Liman, said the annual event is part of efforts to assist orphans and vulnerable persons, especially during Ramadan, and to promote youth empowerment.
He noted that the awards recognise individuals who have demonstrated commitment to the welfare and development of the people of Sokoto State.
Delivering a paper on supporting the vulnerable, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Na Sallah stressed the importance of assisting vulnerable members of society to improve their well-being and foster social harmony.
Prof. Mansur Ibrahim Sa’ed of the Department of Law, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, speaking on the Forum’s motto _“We Are Ready to Learn and Lead”_, urged youths to pursue education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and technology to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to society.
In separate remarks, the Chairman of Sokoto North Local Government, Alhaji Jamilu Umar Gosta; Sarkin Matasan Sokoto, Alhaji Sarki Muhammad Bello Gobirawa; Alhaji Bashar Abubakar; and Barrister Rashida Muhammad, commended the Forum and charged youths to maintain good conduct.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of awards to 11 individuals.
Among the recipients were the General Manager of ALU TV International Nigeria, Bashar Abubakar, and the Chairman of the Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Usman Muhammad Binji.
The Forum also commended broadcaster Bashar Aminu Sabo for his exemplary act of honesty in returning over N20 million he found to its rightful owner.
