Sokoto State Governor Upgrades and Renames State College of Basic and Remedial Studies to Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko College of Technology and Advanced Studies
The Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, has signed into law a bill passed by the Sokoto State House of Assembly upgrading and renaming the State College of Basic and Remedial Studies as Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko College of Technology and Advanced Studies.
The bill was officially signed into law on 14th May, 2026.
This was disclosed today by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Isa Muhammad Maishanu, during a briefing in his office.
According to the Commissioner, the renaming and upgrading of the institution is aimed at immortalizing former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko in recognition of his immense contributions to the development of the education sector in Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.
Prof. Maishanu explained that the institution has now been upgraded to run Diploma and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in line with the vision of the present administration to expand access to quality and advanced education in the state.
The Commissioner also commended Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, for taking the decision at the appropriate time, describing it as a worthy recognition of commitment and service to educational advancement in the state.
He further revealed that the Governing Council of the institution will soon be constituted by the Executive Governor as part of efforts to strengthen the administration and academic development of the college.
