Sokoto Flags Off Distribution of Learning Materials Under EU UNICEF ABEP Programme

The Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in Sokoto State, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, has urged residents of Salah town in Tambuwal Local Government Area to embrace education as a vital tool for human development.

He made this call during the official flag-off ceremony for the distribution of school bags, books, water bottles, and other learning materials to Level One pupils. The initiative targets out of school children, school dropouts, over aged learners, displaced children, and young mothers across six Local Government Areas in the state.

The programme is being implemented by Life Helpers Initiative with support from the State Agency for Mass Education under the European Union (EU) and UNICEF supported ABEP (Accelerated Basic Education Programme) intervention.

Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Sanusi Aliyu Binji, commended the development partners particularly the European Union and UNICEF for their continued commitment to improving access to education in the state.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Tambuwal Local Government, Hon. Abba Shehu Tambuwal, expressed appreciation for the EU UNICEF ABEP intervention, noting its positive impact on education development in the area.

Speaking at the event, the representative of Life Helpers Initiative, Isa Usman, stated that the organization is currently working in six Local Government Areas to strengthen the education sector and expand learning opportunities for vulnerable groups.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the State Agency for Mass Education, Dr. Nura Bello Abubakar, delivered the vote of thanks. He appreciated the contributions of the partners and assured that all materials would be distributed transparently and as planned.

The highlight of the event was the official distribution of school bags and learning materials to the beneficiary children.
