The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Governorship Candidate in Sokoto State, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has joined Nigerians and the international community in celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child, recognising the invaluable contributions, potential and aspirations of girls across Sokoto State and Nigeria.
He described every girl child as a precious member of society whose rights, dignity, safety and opportunities must be protected to enable her to grow into a confident, educated, healthy and productive citizen.
In a statement signed by his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, Dan’iya said the celebration should serve as a renewed call to action to address the barriers preventing many girls from reaching their full potential, particularly limited access to quality education, healthcare, nutrition, digital skills and economic opportunities.
He stressed that girls deserve equal opportunities to learn, innovate, lead and contribute to the development of their families, communities and the nation, regardless of their social or economic background.
Dan’iya reaffirmed that, if elected Governor of Sokoto State, his administration would prioritise policies that improve girls’ access to quality education, strengthen healthcare services and expand opportunities for entrepreneurship and vocational training.
He pledged to support initiatives that keep girls in school, improve access to essential healthcare and menstrual hygiene facilities, promote digital literacy and practical skills, and provide pathways for young women to develop businesses and become economically independent.
He also emphasised the importance of supporting girls from disadvantaged households so that poverty does not deprive them of the chance to fulfil their ambitions.
The ADC candidate further called for stronger protection of girls against child abuse, gender-based violence, exploitation, harmful practices that interrupts education and limits future opportunities.
He urged parents, traditional and religious leaders, educators, healthcare professionals and community organisations to work together to create safe environments in which girls can learn, express themselves, develop their talents and pursue their dreams.
He maintained that protecting the girl child is a shared responsibility that requires practical action, community commitment and effective public policies.
Dan’iya noted that girls in Sokoto and across Nigeria possess enormous potential in science, technology, agriculture, education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, public service, sports and the creative industries.
He said society must move beyond celebrating girls with words and ensure that they have access to the resources, mentorship, training and opportunities needed to succeed.
According to him, educating and empowering a girl benefits not only the individual but also her family, community and future generations.
He congratulated girls across Sokoto State and Nigeria on the occasion, encouraging them to believe in their abilities, pursue education, develop their talents and aspire to leadership and excellence.
He reaffirmed his commitment to a Sokoto where every girl can grow up with dignity, access quality education and healthcare, acquire useful skills, and participate fully in the state’s development.
“When we protect a girl, educate her and create opportunities for her to succeed, we invest in the future of our families, our communities and our nation,” Dan’iya said.
