Tambuwal Not Defecting To APC, Says Media Office
From Bashir Rabe Mani, Sokoto
The Media Office of former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has dismissed reports circulating on social media that the Senator is planning to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a press statement issued on 19th October 2026 and signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Senator Tambuwal, Prince Daniel, the office described the claims as false, baseless and misleading.
The statement said, “The AWT Media Office categorically rejects claims circulating on social media that Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is preparing to defect from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Tambuwal has no plans to join the APC. Suggestions to the contrary are false, baseless and should be disregarded,” it added.
The Media Office explained that Senator Tambuwal is a respected statesman and one of the few politicians in Nigeria with a wide network of friendships and longstanding relationships across party lines, noting that such relationships reflect years of public service and mutual respect and should not be misrepresented as evidence of a change in political allegiance.
According to the statement, the photographs and video clips being circulated do not establish any defection plan, stressing that political civility is no proof of political realignment and that exchanging greetings or interacting with members of another party does not amount to negotiating a change of allegiance.
The statement reaffirmed that Senator Tambuwal remains firmly committed to the ADC and that his focus is on strengthening the party, building broad cooperation and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It further stated that at a time when Nigerians are demanding answers to pressing economic, security and governance challenges, public discussion deserves substance and truth and that unfounded speculation must not distract from the urgent task of offering Nigerians credible leadership and a better future.
The Media Office urged supporters and the public to remain focused on the work ahead, noting that Senator Tambuwal’s commitment to accountable leadership, democratic values and the welfare of Nigerians remains unwavering.
It also called on media organisations and social media commentators to verify claims with the AWT Media Office before publishing, insisting that speculation must never be presented as fact.
