Family of deceased gang-raped teenager in Sokoto seek justice

The family of a 15-year-old girl, Fadimatu Abubakar Gizo, who was allegedly gang-raped and killed in Yarume Mai Hako village in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State have urged the concerned authorities to ensure that justice is duly served on the two suspects that are currently in Police custody

Our Correspondent in Sokoto reports that the deceased, whose marriage ceremony was being arranged, was said to have been gang-raped and strangled to death by the principal suspect, Wadata Usman.

She was said to have met the ill-fate while they were fetching firewood in the nearby forests penultimate week.

The father of the deceased teenager, who was visibly enraged and shocked,  told newsmen on Sunday, “we are highly bereaved and emotionally distraught with this unfortunate incident.

“I want all the suspects arrested and currently being detained at the State Police Command to face justice.

“I want the Federal and Sokoto State Governments, the Nigeria Police Force, National Human Rights Commission and all the relevant authorities to come to out urgent aid and ensure that the suspects face justice for unjustly killing my daughter.”

Also corroborating his pleas, the mother of late Fadimatu, Malama Yar Buga, also appealed to the authorities to get ensure the conduct of discreet investigations and the eventual prosecution of the suspects.

Yari Buga, who broke down in tears, narrated how the promising life of their deceased daughter was abruptly cut shot by her alleged not murderer and rapist.

The Ward Head of Yarume Mai Hako, Alhaji Abubakar Yarume, also appealed for the conduct of thorough investigations, vowing, “we won’t rest on our oars until the suspects face the music

“We won’t allow this case to die without ensuring that we get due justice for the late Fadimatu.

“She was a very honest, disciplined and humble teenager whose marriage we are just fine-tuning.”

Two friends of the deceased, who also witnessed the dastardly act firsthand, Khadijah Buba and Faiza Bello, corroborated all the previous submissions, further appealing for justice in the matter.

The spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, who confirmed the story, said that the suspects were being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Rufai further promised that the State Police Command would not relent in its efforts to conduct thorough investigations to unravel the mystery behind the case.
