RE: MISLEADING PHOTOGRAPH OF SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE AND HISBAH OFFICIAL CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA

By Bashir Rabe Mani in Sokoto

The attention of the Sokoto Police Command has been drawn to a false and mischievous caption accompanying an old photograph currently circulating on X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms. The caption misleadingly claims that a Superintendent of Police was seen escorting a Hisbah Commander.

The Command wishes to set the record straight as follows:

1. The photograph is OLD and has been recirculated by mischief-makers intent on spreading disinformation and causing public misunderstanding.
2. The individual dressed in Hisbah uniform in the said photograph is NOT a Hisbah Commander. He is the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, who was pictured at the inauguration ceremony of the Hisbah Board and Commissioning of its Secretariat on the 22nd November 2024.
3. The Superintendent of Police seen behind the Governor was at the time his Aide-de-Camp (ADC) performing his official and statutory duty of providing security and close protection to the Governor, who is the Chief Security Officer of the State.
4. Under no circumstance did any Police officer “escort” a Hisbah Commander as falsely alleged. The original context of the image has been deliberately distorted to suit a false narrative.

The Command categorically advises the public to IGNORE the false caption and disregard the photograph in its current misleading context. Those circulating the image with malicious intent are urged to desist immediately.

The Nigeria Police Force remains a professional, apolitical institution committed to upholding law and order, and will not be distracted by baseless fabrications.
