2026 Budget: Sokoto LG Chairmen restate commitment to financial prudence
Local Government Chairmen in Sokoto State on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to financial prudence and grassroots development.
The chairmen made this known after defending their respective proposed 2026 budgets before the State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Speaking after the session, the Chairman of Wurno Local Government Area, Alhaji Abba Achida, disclosed that the council proposed a budget of N7.5 billion for the 2026 fiscal year.
He said the administration would prioritise the nine-point smart agenda of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu.
Achida emphasised the importance of human capital development and financial discipline in enhancing effective budget implementation.
He added that women and youth empowerment would remain a top priority, describing them as the backbone of societal transformation.
Similarly, the Chairman of Kebbe LGA, Alhaji Musa Kuchi, said his council also proposed N7.5 billion for 2026.
He assured that the council would sustain efforts to address security challenges while maintaining financial discipline in executing legacy projects.
Kuchi commended the state government for its continued support in improving the living standards of residents, pledging to reciprocate such efforts through impactful initiatives.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Yabo LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad, said the council proposed N7 billion, with a strong focus on youth empowerment and transparency in governance.
He described youth development as key to societal transformation and a brighter future.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Isa LGA, Alhaji Sharehu Kamarawa, revealed that the council proposed N7.8 billion, with priority on tackling security challenges.
He stated that Isa remains one of the most security-affected areas in the state and assured that efforts would be intensified to restore lasting peace.
Kamarawa added that the council would promote youth empowerment and self-reliance to address post-banditry challenges in the area.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Sabon-Birni LGA, Alhaji Ayuba Hashimu, disclosed that the council proposed over N8 billion for the 2026 fiscal year.
He said the budget would focus on both rural and urban development.
Hashimu explained that the council is working to address the effects of banditry across key sectors such as healthcare, education, potable water supply, and youth empowerment.
He also commended the state government for its commitment to rural development and its support in strengthening security across the state.
