VC, PROF. KATSAYAL, mni, INAUGURATES TRANS-SAHARAN ROUTE AND TRADE RESEARCH PROJECT TEAM

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Transportation, Daura, Hon. Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, mni, has on Monday, 30th March, 2026, inauguarated a trans-saharan route and trade research project team for the University.
The team was constituted by the Vice-Chancellor, in his efforts to establish research directions for the Federal University of Transportation, Daura, the first University of Transportation in the whole of Africa, areas that researches were least carried out before.
The team was expected to provide a comprehensive framework for organizing and executing a research project on the historical dynamics of Trans-Saharan Trade and their relevance to contemporary African development.
Inaugurating the team, the Vice-Chancellor, Hon. Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, mni, welcomed the Principal Investigator, who was the immediate past Secretary-General, Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Prof. Yakubu Ocheifu Aboki and other members to the University.
He urged them to expedite action with the aim of meeting-up with deadline for the reseach work, saying that their selection was meticulously done in consideration of their vast knowledge and experience especially on the history of the nation.
The Vice-Chancellor said that, the project brought expert researchers from Nigeria, West Africa, Pan-African institutions together, to address four critical research questions through fieldwork, collaborative presentations, panel discussions, and working group sessions.
“it is also to form the basis for reasearch to be carried out by the staff of the University in consideration of transportation focus of the institution”, the Vice-Chancellor said.
The Vice-Chancellor then inaugurated the team and wished them success in carrying out their assignment.
Speaking on behalf of the team, the Principal Investigator, Prof. Yakubu Ocheifu Aboki, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and other Management Staff of the University for the confidence reposed in them to carryout the very important assignment.
He then assured the Vice-Chancellor of the team’s commitment to discharging its duties effectively, saying that, his visit to Daura was first in his whole life despite the long histoty of the Local Government in Katsina State.
It could be recalled that, this team was second research team to be inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, in order to provide research directions for the young University.
