Usmanu Danfodiyo Varsity appoints 3 service Directors

The University Governing Council, at its 178th (Special) meeting held on Friday, 3rd July, approved the recommendations of the Selection Board for the appointments of three
service Directors in the University.
Those appointed are:
Arc. Muhammad Hassan as Director, Physical Planning &
Development, who is is an Architect by profession.
He attended the Polytechnic of Birnin
Kebbi, where he obtained a National Diploma (ND) in Architecture in 2000.
He later obtained a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Architecture from the Federal University of
Technology, Minna in 2006, and a Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Architecture from the same institution in 2014. He is a registered member of relevant architectural regulatory
bodies.
He began his professional career with Savannah Consult, Kano, during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in 2007. In 2008, he joined the services of Usman Danfodiyo
University, Sokoto as Architect lI.
He subsequently progressed through the ranks to ArchitectI (2011), Senior Architect (2015), Principal Architect (2018), Chief Architect (2021) and an acting Director of Physical Planning and Development (2024), and Deputy Director
(Architect) in 2026.
His experience includes architectural design, project supervision, physical planning and management of infrastructural projects. He has also served on several university
committees.
Dr. Zainab Abdullahi as the Director Health Services, who is a medical practitioner.
She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in 2001.
She later undertook postgraduate medical training (Primaries: WACP) at the West African College of Physicians, completing it in 2006.
Dr. Abdullahi obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in 2010. In 2017, she earned a membership Fellowship in Community Medicine from
the West African Colege of Physicians.
She began her professional career at Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital, Sokoto, as a Medical Officer in 2004.
In the same year, she joined Usmanu Danfodiyo
University, Sokoto, as a Medical Officer.
She has held various positions, including Senior Medical Officer, Principal Medical Officer, Also, Chief Medical Officer, and Senior Chief Medical Officer.
She has also served as a member and chairperson of several committees in the University.
Also, Wing Commander Abubakar Usman is currently a Wing Commander in the Nigerian Air
Force, with over 23 years of service in the Nigerian Armed Forces.
He attended Kaduna
Polytechnic, Kaduna, where he obtained a National Diploma (ND) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering in 2006 and 2009
respectively.
He later earned a Postgraduate Diploma and a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power and Machines) from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, in 2015 and 2024
respectively.
He has attended several professional military and technical courses both locally and internationally, including training in Pakistan and Turkey.
Wing Commander Abubakar Usman joined the Nigerian Armed Forces in 2003 and has served in various military units, including Nigerian Army and Air Force formations, with experience in operations, security, engineering, and explosive management.
Each of the appointments is for a single non-renewable term of five (5) years and will take effect from the date the Officer assumes duty.
Meanwhile, the Usmanu Danfodiyo Medical Students Association (UDUMSA) in collaboration with Hematology
and Blood Transfusion Unit, Uduth has conducted an awareness and free Hepatitis screening for both
Staff and Students of the University.
The event took place at the permanent site of Usmanu Danfodiyo University on 2nd July, 2026.
The major aim of the exercise was to assist the Students, Staff and general public in detecting and
providing the necessary support in the event of any positive case.
The exercise was coordinated by Mr. Asiwaju Ibrahim (Vice Chairman -UDUMSA) and supervised by
Malam Muhammad Bashar Usman (Assistant Director Medical Lab: Blood Bank, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, UDUTH).
The Students that participated expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the gesture.
In a related development, the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA) held an orientation programme for both existing and newly employed Registry Staff of the University as well as the general
public.
The programme was held on Wednesday, 24th June, 2026 at the NCC digital centre with a theme:
The event featured University officials including the Vice Chancellor (Represented by DVC Admin), The
Registrar and other high ranking University officials.
The Registrar who also served as the Patron of the association gave a brief opening remark and
congratulated the newly employed Staff and wishes them well in their Career.
The first lecture was delivered by the former Registrar (Mal. N.A Belko) who presented on University
Administrative practices, procedures and ethics.
The second lecture was delivered by Mal. M.I Dan gulbi, who presented on practical application of MS
Word and Excel for University administrators.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by Mal Aliyu Musa of the Public Relations Unit on behalf of the
newly employed Staff.
