WHY SOKOTO VOTERS SHOULD RE-ELECT GOV. AHMED ALIYU FOR SECOND TERM – APC CHAIRMAN

The Sokoto State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Haruna Sarkin-Gobir Adiya*, has urged voters in the state to trust the All Progressives Congress (APC), and re-elect Gov. Ahmed Aliyu for a second term in 2027, saying the governor deserves another term to complete and scale up projects started in his first term.
Speaking in an interview on Friday in Sokoto, Alhaji Adiya said Gov. Aliyu came into office in 2023 with a nine-point smart agenda focused on security, education, health, agriculture, youth empowerment and infrastructure.
“His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Aliyu deserves a second term because it is about completing and scaling what was started from the first term,” he said.
On security, the APC Chairman said the governor, upon assumption of office in 2023, established the Community Guards drawn from the 23 local government areas. He said the personnel were trained and equipped with modern equipment to assist security agencies in tackling banditry and armed robbery.
He added that the state government also procured about 62 armored vehicles, 700 motorcycles and 200 Hilux vehicles which were distributed to the Police, Army, Civil Defence and DSS to enhance mobility and response.
On education, Alhaji Adiya said the administration paid WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and other fees for students, renovated schools across the state, and prioritized training and retraining of teachers. He noted that teachers’ salaries are paid promptly, while scholarships and support were provided to Sokoto students in tertiary institutions.
In the area of youth empowerment, he said the government introduced skill acquisition, digital training and small business grants to reduce idleness and support entrepreneurship among young people.
On health, the Chairman said the governor upgraded general hospitals across the state and renovated 160 out of the 244 primary health centres, most of which were dilapidated. He added that more health workers were employed and drugs provided to make healthcare affordable.
In agriculture, he said farmers received free fertilizer, tractors, irrigation facilities, seedlings and chemicals to boost production of rice, millet and wheat, stressing that Sokoto remains a food basket of the nation.
On water supply, Alhaji Adiya said the administration rehabilitated and upgraded the Sokoto water intake and installed solar power to improve supply to the metropolis and environs, alongside other urban and rural water projects.
He further said the government embarked on road construction and rehabilitation in Sokoto metropolis and across local government areas to link farmers to markets, adding that many of the projects have been commissioned while others are at completion stage.
On governance and civil service, the APC Chairman said civil servants now work in a conducive environment with prompt payment of salaries and pensions. He said salaries are paid on or before the 28th of every month, while pensions are paid by the 20th.
He concluded that the Aliyu administration stands for accountability and prudent spending, and therefore deserves the support of Sokoto people for a second term to consolidate the gains.
