Tambuwal Mourns 47 Goronyo Boat Mishap Victims, Seeks Urgent Safety Measures

Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic boat mishap in Gorau community, Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, which claimed the lives of no fewer than 47 people.
According to the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), 14 people were rescued following the incident, which occurred earlier on Thursday.
In a post on his verified X handle, Tambuwal described the incident as a devastating tragedy and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, their loved ones, and the people of Gorau community and Goronyo Local Government Area.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic boat mishap that occurred earlier today in Gorau community, Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, which claimed the lives of 41 people, while 11 others were rescued,” he said.
Tambuwal commended the rescuers and all those involved in the emergency response for their efforts to save lives and provide assistance to those affected by the tragedy.
He also called on the relevant authorities to urgently investigate the circumstances surrounding the mishap and strengthen safety measures on the nation’s waterways to prevent a recurrence of such a tragedy.
The former governor prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for strength and comfort for their families and loved ones during this difficult period.
“May Almighty Allah forgive the shortcomings of those who lost their lives, grant them Aljannatul Firdausi, and give their families the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Tambuwal prayed.
