Sultan urges sighting of Rabi’al Al-Thani Crescent

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims across the country to look out for the new crescent of Rabi’ al-Thani 1448 AH on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The call is contained in a statement signed by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Sultanate’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu.
The statement noted that Friday, September 11, marks the 29th day of Rabi’ al-Awwal 1448 AH, and urged Muslims to make efforts to sight the new crescent.
It called on anyone who sights the moon to promptly report the sighting to the nearest Village or District Head, who will forward the information to the Sultan for verification and the official announcement.
