In a concerted push to deepen grassroots security architecture and operational efficiency, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has conducted an extensive operational tour across five Local Government Areas of the state
They were: Kebbe, Tambuwal, Shagari, Yabo, and Bodinga, just as the tour aligned directly with the community policing directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
This was contained in a statement signed by the spokesperson of the Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, issued in Sokoto on Sunday
According to the statement, during the multi-day engagement, CP Shaffa combined strategic visits to police divisions with interactive town hall meetings and high-level consultations with traditional rulers and critical stakeholders.
It added, “The goal was to assess security realities on the ground, strengthen police-community trust, and recalibrate tactical responses to local challenges.
” The CP held closed-door sessions with Royal Fathers and community leaders in each LGA, acknowledging their role as custodians of local intelligence.
“He urged them to sustain collaboration with the Police in identifying suspicious movements and resolving conflicts before they escalate.”
The statement added that at divisional headquarters across the five LGAs, CP Shaffa conducted spot checks on duty rosters, arms handling protocols, and response times to distress calls.
He commended officers for their resilience while directing swift remedial action where operational gaps were identified.
Addressing diverse crowds of youths, women leaders, transport unions, and vigilante groups, the CP demystified the community policing model.
He encouraged citizens to see the Police as partners, not adversaries, and reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for extortion, intimidation, or professional misconduct.
Reinforcing the Inspector-General’s vision, CP Shaffa emphasized that policing must go beyond enforcement to embrace prevention, dialogue, and shared responsibility.
He reiterated that the IGP has mandated all Commands to embed community liaison mechanisms, including feedback channels and joint patrols with local security committees.
The statement added, “The IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has given clear marching orders: every officer must become a community asset.
“Today’s engagements in Kebbe, Tambuwal, Shagari, Yabo, and Bodinga are not ceremonial—they are operational. We are listening, and we will act.” – CP Shaffa Stated.
“His Royal Highness, the Sarkin Kabin Kebbe, Alhaji Lawali Labbo Margay, praised the CP’s proactive visit, noting that visible command presence deters criminal elements and reassures law-abiding citizens.
“Similar commendations were received in Tambuwal and Shagari, where stakeholders pledged to revitalize neighborhood watch groups.
“The tour concluded with the CP directing Area Commanders and DPOs to submit actionable community policing plans within seven days, incorporating feedback from the townhall meetings. He also ordered intensified patrols along inter-LGA border corridors, especially in Kebbe and Tambuwal.”
The statement further said that the Commissioner of Police further appealed to the good people of the areas to continue supporting the Police and other security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance prompt response and effective policing across the command.
