NUT Commends SUBEB Chairman Tambuwal, Announces LG Elections Across Sokoto

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Sokoto State Chapter, Comrade Murtala Muhammad Sokoto, has commended the exemplary leadership of the Executive Chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, for his efforts in protecting the interests and improving the welfare of primary school teachers.
He made this known when he led a delegation of NUT executives on a courtesy visit to the office of the SUBEB Executive Chairman.
Among the NUT delegation were the First Vice Chairman, Comrade Hassan Mutasibi of Almajiri School, Gagi Sokoto, Social Secretary of NUT Sokoto, Murtala Aliyu and Malama Nafisa Mahamud.
Comrade Murtala explained that their visit was also to formally inform the Chairman of the planned conduct of elections for NUT executives across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state, in line with the union’s constitutional provisions.
He further stated that the union is proud of the leadership of the SUBEB Chairman and assured him of their continued support towards revitalizing and improving basic education in line with the vision of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto to reposition and restore the dignity of the teaching profession in the state.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman, Alhaji Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, appreciated the union’s commitment to fulfilling agreements reached with its leadership at the local government level.
He also reiterated his administration’s commitment, particularly to strengthening the capacity of Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), especially in the areas of monitoring, mentoring, and coaching of schools within their respective jurisdictions.
In a related development, the SUBEB Executive Chairman held a meeting with the Board’s directors to brief them on ongoing plans to establish “Second Chance Schools,” and to expand the committee by adding three more members to ensure continuity of the initiative.
During the meeting, three committees comprising Board members were constituted to oversee activities across the three senatorial zones of the state, ensuring the successful conduct of the NUT elections at the local government level scheduled for Tuesday, 28th April 2026.
The three committees will operate under the supervision of the Board Secretary, Alhaji Mamuda Ahmad Wamakko.
