NUJ SOKOTO HOLDS CONGRESS ON SATURDAY

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, will on Saturday, 19th September 2026, hold its monthly Congress at the NUJ Press Centre, Zuru Road, Sokoto.
The Congress, scheduled for 9:00 a.m., will focus on the theme: “Journalism and Political Campaigns: Between Public Interest and Political Influence.”
The Guest Lecturer is Professor Tanko Yahaya Baba of the Department of Political Science, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
The Congress is expected to bring together journalists and media practitioners to examine the role of journalism in democratic governance, particularly as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.
Discussions will centre on the need for journalists to uphold professionalism, editorial independence, fairness, accuracy and public interest while reporting political activities and campaigns.
The Council has also invited the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Sokoto State, Hon. Sambo Bello Danchadi, as the Special Guest of Honour at the event.
The Chairman of NUJ Sokoto State Council, Comrade Usman Mohammed Binji, urged members of the Union and other stakeholders in the media sector to participate actively in the Congress, describing it as an important platform for professional reflection and capacity building.
