Katsina-born Lt.-Col. makes history, becomes pioneer Army Professor

Lt.-Col. Prof. Abubakar Surajo Imam, a Katsina-born graduate of Bayero University Kano (BUK), has made history as Nigeria’s first-ever Army professor.
Born in Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State, Prof. Imam studied Mechanical Engineering at BUK before pursuing postgraduate studies in Mechatronics and Robotics.
He obtained his master’s degree and PhD in Mechatronics and Robotics from Newcastle University, United Kingdom, building an academic career alongside his service in the Nigerian Army.
He currently serves at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), where he has been involved in Mechatronics Engineering, research and innovation.
His work focuses on developing practical technological solutions, including innovations in defence systems, medical equipment and other technologies with applications for both military and civilian use.
His achievement represents a remarkable blend of military service, academic excellence, research and innovation, making his journey an inspiring example of what can be achieved through dedication and knowledge.
