Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has assured residents of Gusau and environs that regular water supply will soon be restored as the rehabilitation of the state waterworks nears completion.
The governor gave the assurance while inspecting the waterworks facilities in Gusau and other ongoing infrastructure projects in the state capital.
Lawal’s first stop of the project inspection was the Zamfara State Water Board facility in Gusau, the state capital.
The Lawal administration took over the water works which was left in a state of disrepair, prompting the government to embark on a total rehabilitation of the project in two phases.
The first phase focused on facilities near the river supplying raw water, while the second involved the rehabilitation of water treatment and distribution facilities.
From the waterworks, the governor proceeded to the Sir Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Gusau, which is undergoing a major renovation to upgrade its facilities and provide modern sporting equipment that meets FIFA standards.
Lawal also inspected the electric vehicle charging station constructed by the state government as part of efforts to promote clean energy transportation.
The initiative follows the government’s procurement of 50 electric vehicles intended for use as taxis within the state capital.
The governor who briefed reporters on his assessment of the projects, highlighted the progress made and the need to ensure their sustainability.
Lawal said his administration was developing modalities to encourage public-private partnerships to ensure their effective operation of electric vehicles and their long-term sustainability.
The Governor expressed satisfaction with the ongoing projects across the state capital in particular and across the state under his administration’s renewal programme.
He said the inspection was part of efforts to monitor the progress of ongoing projects, ensure compliance with quality standards and promote timely completion for the benefit of residents. END
