Attempted homicide, mob action: Sokoto Police sue for peace

The Sokoto State Police Command has confirm the unfortunate events that transpired in Sokoto city on Friday, calling upon the good people of the Caliphate to remain calm and uphold the peace.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Sokoto by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Ahmed Rufai.
The statement said, ” At about 1350hrs a distress call was received from a concerned citizen reporting a violent attack at the Lukuwa Mosque.
” Preliminary investigations reveal that an unknown individual, harboring a hidden motive, entered the Mosque and attacked Malam Musa Lukawa immediately following the Jummu’at prayers.
“The assailant, who brought out a sharp knife, inflicted deep cuts on the victim’s neck and left hand. In a swift and regrettable turn of events, the assailant was immediately overpowered and lynched to death by an angry mob before security operatives could intervene.”
According to the statement, the deceased assailant was rushed to hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
It continued, “The victim, Malam Musa Lukawa, was initially rushed to a Specialist Hospital. We are pleased to report that he was treated and discharged.
“While we understand the community’s outrage regarding this heinous attack, the authorities strongly condemn the act of jungle justice.
“We urge the good people of the Caliphate to embrace peace and refrain from any form of unrest or reprisal attacks.
“The Commissioner of Police Cp Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, psc, mnips call upon all citizens to cooperate fully with security agencies as they conduct a thorough investigation into this matter.
“It is imperative that we allow the law to take its course to ensure justice is served appropriately.”
The statement further said that security agencies have been deployed to the area to maintain law and order.
“We advise the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security post,” it concluded.
