Sokoto Governor’s Security Adviser bags “Golden Heart” Award

The Special Adviser on Security Matters to Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu, retired Col. Ahmed Abdul Usman, Sadaukin Gwadabawa, has been honoured by his course mates with the prestigious “Golden Heart” Award.
The award recognizes his outstanding contributions to the bond of friendship and welfare among members of Direct Regular Course DRC 10 Nigerian Army / 11 Nigerian Air Force.
Col. Ahmed received the award during the course’s 2026 reunion held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the 65 Battalion Mess, Bonny Cantonment, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Members of the course, enlisted into the Nigerian Army in 2000, used the reunion to renew friendships and camaraderie built over more than two decades of service.
Receiving the award, the Security Adviser expressed appreciation to the President of the Association, *Brig. Gen. Showunmi Solomon Rtd*, and other members of DRC 10 NA / 11 NAF for the recognition.
He described the award as a source of encouragement and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant members the strength to continue supporting one another and to protect them as they return to their various destinations.
The reunion also provided an opportunity for members to reflect on the history, achievements, and future of the association, with emphasis on strengthening friendship and improving member welfare.
In his address, the Association’s President recalled that the initiative to unite members began in 2015 through a WhatsApp platform, which later grew into a structured body with elected officials and guiding rules.
He noted that the first physical reunion was held in 2021 at the 65 Battalion Mess, followed by meetings at Eko Hotels and Suites, and the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess in Abuja.
The President stressed that welfare remains a key objective of the association. He urged members to build stronger welfare systems that promote economic independence through collaboration and wealth-creation initiatives, especially as many approach retirement.
He also called on members to contribute positively to their communities and to the development of the country as senior citizens.
The occasion concluded with a minute’s silence in honour of deceased members, with prayers for their families.
