Scores of ADC Members Defect to APC in Sokoto South’s Gagi ‘B’ Ward

Scores of members of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, have dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Gagi ‘B’ Ward of Sokoto South Local Government Area, citing Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s development projects as their reason.
The mass defection ceremony was attended by the Chairman of Sokoto South LGA, Malam Ya’u Muhammad Danda, who also serves as the Secretary of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Sokoto State Chapter.
Speaking at the event, Malam Danda commended the decampees for “returning home” to the APC.
He said their decision was informed by the visible projects executed by Gov. Ahmed Aliyu in Gagi ‘B’ Ward and across Sokoto State.
He further challenged the ADC gubernatorial candidate to publicly account for projects he attracted to Sokoto State during his tenure as the Commissioner for Local Governments and as a Deputy Governor.
Receiving the defectors on behalf of the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Haruna S. Gobir Adiya and the State Secretary of the APC, Barr. Muhammad Bello, welcomed them into the party.
They assured them of equal rights and privileges, saying,” from today, you are full members of the APC. It is now one mother, one father,” he declared.
Among the notable defectors were Alhaji Mustapha Maigandi, Alhaji Bello Tambuwal, Alhaji Muhammed Abubakar Ladan who was a former Permanent Secretary at Government House, a former Councillors, Hon. Tukur Garba and Hon. Abubakar Yusuf, Hajiya Rabi Giyawa, Alhaji Abu Dan Kwara, Alhaji Amadu Mabera and Alhaji Sani Danda.
The Member representing Sokoto South 1 in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Mustapha Abdullahi Dust, who played a key role in the mobilization, said the development has effectively made Gagi ‘B’ Ward an APC stronghold.
The event drew the Deputy Chairman of Sokoto South LGA, Hon. Faruk Garba, Councillors, Special Advisers to the Governor, politicians, business leaders, government workers, and other stakeholders.
Political observers noted that this latest defection adds to the growing depletion of the ADC and other opposition political parties in the state by the APC.
They added that the development is crucial for the ruling APC in Sokoto State and the Federal Government with the 2027 general elections fast approaching.
