From Muhammad Gazali Garba

The Sokoto State Government has commenced payment of salaries to 3,100 newly recruited civil servants, fulfilling the employment promise made by Governor Ahmed Aliyu during his electioneering campaign.

Disclosing this at the Usman Faruk Secretariat, Sokoto, the State Head of Civil Service and Chairman of the Payment Committee, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ahmad, said the exercise underscores the administration’s commitment to job creation and improved welfare of citizens.

Ahmad explained that the payment modality varies, with some beneficiaries receiving their entitlements in cash while others are paid directly into their bank accounts.

He noted that the current administration has so far recruited over 6,000 youths into different sectors of the public service, including the Marshals Corps and health personnel.

According to him, the newly engaged workers must reciprocate the government’s gesture through dedication, discipline and commitment to duty.

He further assured that the committee will ensure transparency, fairness and accountability throughout the exercise to guarantee that all eligible beneficiaries receive their entitlements without hindrance.

Other members of the committee are Barrister Ghandi Umar, Co-Chairman and Senior Special Assistant on Administration and Legal Matters, and Alhaji Junaidu Usman Junaidu, Secretary and Deputy Accountant-General.

The exercise also had in attendance representatives of the Ministry of Finance, Civil Service Commission, Local Government Service Commission, Office of the Auditor-General, Teachers Service Board, and the Sokoto State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke during the exercise expressed profound gratitude to the Sokoto State Government for the employment and timely payment of their salaries, pledging to be diligent and committed in the discharge of their duties.
