HAJJ 2026: SOKOTO’S SUCCESSFUL OUTING
The 2026 Hajj exercise will undoubtedly go down as one of the most successful outings recorded by Sokoto State in recent years, marked by effective planning, strong leadership, improved welfare services, and the successful performance of Hajj rites by thousands of pilgrims from the state.
Long before the commencement of the pilgrimage, the Sokoto State Government and the Pilgrims Welfare Agency put in place necessary measures to ensure a hitch-free operation.
The state government constituted a high-powered Hajj delegation headed by the Amirul Hajj, Alhaji Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, with a mandate to oversee the welfare, accommodation, transportation, feeding, and general well-being of pilgrims throughout their stay in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Chairman of the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Alhaji Aliyu Musa and Permanent Secretary of the Agency Alhaji Ibrahim Umar JJ had consistently assured intending pilgrims that adequate preparations were being made to guarantee a smooth and successful Hajj exercise. The agency maintained close coordination with relevant authorities both in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia to ensure efficient service delivery.
One of the major highlights of the 2026 Hajj operation was the successful participation of 2,410 Sokoto State pilgrims who completed all the prescribed Hajj rites in Makkah, Mina, Muzdalifah, and Arafat. The successful completion of the pilgrimage by all pilgrims reflected the effectiveness of the arrangements put in place by the state government and the Pilgrims Welfare Agency.
Pilgrims from Sokoto State benefited from improved welfare services throughout the pilgrimage period. Accommodation, transportation, feeding, medical services, and general logistics were effectively coordinated, enabling pilgrims to focus on their spiritual obligations. The state delegation, committee members, and agency staff worked tirelessly to ensure that pilgrims performed their religious duties in comfort and dignity.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto further demonstrated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of pilgrims by approving a special Sallah package of 1,000 Saudi Riyals for each of the 2,410 pilgrims from the state. The gesture was widely appreciated by pilgrims and members of the Hajj delegation, who described it as a reflection of the governor’s concern for the well-being of the citizens.
The success of Sokoto State’s Hajj operation also coincided with broader improvements in the management of the pilgrimage by Saudi authorities. Many pilgrims and observers noted enhanced crowd management, improved safety measures, and better coordination of services throughout the holy sites, contributing to a generally successful Hajj season.
The achievements recorded during the 2026 Hajj exercise were made possible through the collective efforts of the Sokoto State Government, the Amirul Hajj, members of the Hajj delegation, the Pilgrims Welfare Agency, medical teams, committee members, and the pilgrims themselves, who conducted themselves as worthy ambassadors of the state.
