WAMAKKO, OTHER DIGNITARIES RECEIVE MUSLIM WORLD LEAGUE SECRETARY-GENERAL IN ABUJA

The Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, has arrived in Abuja ahead of an international conference expected to bring together prominent Islamic scholars, religious leaders and other stakeholders to discuss peace, security, unity and sustainable socio-economic development.
Sheikh Al-Issa, who also serves as Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, was received on arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by a delegation of senior Nigerian officials and political leaders.
Among those at the airport to receive him was former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, a member of the Muslim World League.
Also present were the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto; former Governor of Gombe State and Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje; and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Alhaji Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, among other dignitaries.
The visit of the Muslim World League Secretary-General comes ahead of the international conference in Abuja, which is expected to provide a platform for scholars, policymakers, religious leaders and other stakeholders to exchange views on some of the major challenges confronting Muslim communities and the wider society.
Discussions at the conference are expected to focus on strengthening peaceful coexistence, addressing security challenges, promoting unity and exploring the role of religious institutions in advancing sustainable socio-economic development.
The gathering is also expected to examine how religious leadership, dialogue and cooperation can contribute to conflict prevention, social stability and greater understanding among communities.
Sheikh Al-Issa is an internationally recognised Islamic scholar and advocate of moderation, interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence. As Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, he has participated in several international initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation among religious and community leaders and promoting understanding across different faiths and cultures.
The Muslim World League, known in Arabic as Rabitat al-Alam al-Islami, is an international Islamic organisation headquartered in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Its activities include promoting Islamic values of moderation, humanitarian cooperation, interfaith and intercultural dialogue, and peaceful coexistence.
Senator Wamakko’s participation in the reception reflects his engagement with the Muslim World League and other Islamic institutions working to promote religious scholarship, dialogue and cooperation.
The Abuja conference is expected to strengthen engagement among religious scholars, government officials and other stakeholders on practical approaches to promoting peace, security, unity and sustainable development in Nigeria and beyond.
Participants are also expected to explore ways of harnessing religious scholarship and institutional cooperation to address contemporary challenges and promote greater understanding within the Muslim Ummah and humanity at large.
