Tragedy: Again, inferno razes N204.12m onions in Sokoto

Tragedy again struck in Sokoto State, as an inferno has razed 5,932 bags of onions worth over N204.12million in Duhuwa community of Wurno Local Government Area of the state, according to disturbing statistics released on Sunday by the National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers of Nigeria (NOPPMAN).
Its National President, Alhaji Aliyu Isa Maitasamu told our Correspondent that no fewer than 324 multiple storage facilities were affected by the devastating blaze.
According to him, each burnt down 324 facilities had 18 bags, equal to 5,832 bags, disclosing that each bag currently costs N35,000 in the market.
The National President said that the association will soon liaise with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), with a view to seeking urgent support for the victims of the unfortunate disaster.
In the same vein, Alhaji Aliyu Isa Maitasamu said that NOPPMAN will write to the Sokoto State Ministry of Agriculture to secure urgent reliefs to the affected farmers.
“This is in order to alleviate the heavy losses they had incurred, hence bounce back in their businesses,” the NOPPMAN National President added.
It could be recalled that another inferno had penultimate week destroyed no fewer than 2,275 bags of onion believed to be worth about N56.8million in Kojiyo village, Goronyo Local Government Area of the state.
Also,  barely 48 hours after the Kojiyo disaster, thousands of onion bags were lost to another devastating fire disaster in the Dundaye community of Wamakko Local Government Area.
