Sultan Directs Muslims to Look Out for New Moon of Rabi’ul Awwal on Thursday

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has directed Muslims across Nigeria to look out for the new moon of Rabi’ul Awwal 1448AH on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The directive was contained in a press release issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, and signed by the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Wazirin Sokoto.
It said Thursday, August 13, corresponds to the 29th day of Safar 1448AH and should therefore be observed as the day for sighting the new moon of Rabi’ul Awwal 1448AH.
It called on Muslims who sight the crescent to report it to the nearest District or Village Head for onward communication to the Sultan of Sokoto.
