Senator Saliu Mustapha’s Defection to PDP Victory for Kwara People — Dan Sokoto

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Afon Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Salman Ridwan Dan Sokoto, has described the defection of Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, to the party as a major victory for the people of the state.
Dan Sokoto, in a statement issued on Thursday, welcomed Mustapha to the PDP, saying his decision to join the opposition party would strengthen its structure and broaden its capacity to provide good governance in Kwara State.
He described the senator’s defection as “a bold and welcome development,” stressing that it was an indication of growing support for the PDP ahead of future elections.
“We heartily welcome Distinguished Senator Saliu Mustapha to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party of the people.
“His coming is a major boost to the PDP in Kwara State and a clear testimony that the people are yearning for a party that listens, cares and delivers,” he said.
According to him, the PDP remains the most credible political platform with the structure, experience and people-oriented ideology required to reposition the state for inclusive development.
Dan Sokoto said the arrival of Mustapha and other political leaders would further strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The PDP in Kwara is one big family. With the coming of Senator Mustapha and other well-meaning leaders, our party is further positioned to provide purposeful leadership and quality representation at all levels.
“This is a win for democracy and for the people of Kwara Central and Kwara State at large,” he added.
The PDP candidate also assured new members and defectors of a level playing field within the party, urging them to work together towards strengthening the party at the grassroots.
“As we welcome our leaders and teeming supporters into the PDP, I urge all members to remain united, focused and committed.
“Together, we will work to ensure victory for the PDP in Afon Constituency, across Kwara State and beyond,” Dan Sokoto stated.
He reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots mobilisation and pledged to work with the party leadership to consolidate its structures and electoral prospects across the state.
