NOPPMAN resumes onon exports to Ghana

The National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN), has announced the immediate lifting of the suspension placed on onion exports to the Republic of Ghana.
In a public notice signed on Thursday by its President, Alhaji Aliyu Isah Maitasamu, NOPPMAN said the decision followed consultations with relevant stakeholders, including the Ministries of Trade of Nigeria and Ghana, diplomatic authorities, ECOWAS and other institutions.
The Association had earlier suspended exports due to unresolved challenges affecting Nigerian and Nigerien onion traders in Ghana.
The issues included difficulties with the reception, allocation and offloading of consignments at Kotoku Market, as well as concerns over the safety and uninterrupted conduct of cross-border trade.
According to the notice, onion exports from Nigeria to Ghana may now resume with immediate effect. NOPPMAN advised all exporters and transporters to conduct their activities peacefully and in line with applicable laws, trade procedures and agreed market arrangements.
The Association also urged exporters to maintain proper documentation and comply with AfCFTA, ECOWAS, phytosanitary, customs and other relevant trade requirements.
NOPPMAN called on stakeholders in Ghana to reciprocate the gesture by ensuring the safe reception, lawful movement, fair market access and uninterrupted offloading of legitimate Nigerian and Nigerien onion consignments.
It said any disagreement should be resolved through dialogue and appropriate dispute-resolution mechanisms rather than intimidation, obstruction or violence.
The Association further encouraged support for a permanent and mutually acceptable framework for cross-border onion trade to protect the interests of producers, exporters, transporters, marketers and consumers in Nigeria, Ghana, Niger and other West African countries.
NOPPMAN appreciated the intervention of government authorities, diplomatic missions and ECOWAS in resolving the challenges, and reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful regional trade, food security and economic cooperation.
All members and stakeholders have been advised to take note and comply accordingly.
