A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Ridwan Dan Sokoto, has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly, marking his formal entry into the 2027 electoral race.

Dan Sokoto presented his letter of intent to party leaders on Tuesday, April 22, 2026, signaling his readiness to represent Afon Constituency under the PDP platform.

Speaking shortly after submitting the letter, the aspirant said his decision to run was driven by a desire to deliver effective representation and improve the welfare of his constituents.

“I am committed to bringing purposeful leadership and ensuring that the voices of our people in Afon Constituency are well represented,” he said.

He added that his focus would be on youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and policies that directly impact the livelihoods of the people.

Party stakeholders who received the letter commended his move, describing it as a welcome development that would strengthen internal democracy within the PDP in Kwara State.

Dan Sokoto, a businessman and community figure, is expected to begin wider consultations across the constituency in the coming weeks as part of his campaign build-up.

The presentation of his letter of intent is one of the early steps in the build-up to party primaries ahead of the next general elections.
