Sokoto ADC chieftain, Murtala Madugu, defects to APC

A prominent Sokoto businessman and key figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Murtala Madugu, has formally resigned from the party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Sokoto by Bashar Abubakar, Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko
According to the statement, Alhaji Madugu was formally received into the APC by the party leader in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, at his Asokoro residence in Abuja last week.
Speaking shortly after his defection, Madugu said his decision to join the APC was influenced by what he described as the numerous developmental projects being executed by the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu across Sokoto State.
He said the development initiatives of the present administration had strengthened his conviction that the APC remained a platform through which he could contribute to the political and socio-economic development of the state.
Madugu also cited what he described as a lack of focus and internal coordination within the leadership of the ADC in Sokoto State as another factor that influenced his decision to leave the opposition party.
He pledged to work with the APC leadership and contribute to strengthening the party at the grassroots.
Receiving the new member, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko welcomed Madugu into the APC and assured him of equal treatment and opportunities within the party.
Sen. Wamakko said the APC would continue to promote programmes and policies aimed at advancing the development of Sokoto State and improving the well-being of its people.
He described Madugu’s decision to join the party as a welcome development and called on members to continue working together to strengthen unity within the APC.
Also present at the reception was the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, Katukan Sokoto, who joined Senator Wamakko in welcoming Alhaji Murtala Madugu into the APC.
