Breaking: Two-Storey Building Under Construction Collapses in Sokoto, No Casualty Recorded

A two-storey building under construction along Bauchi Road, in the heart of Sokoto metropolis, collapsed at around 2pm on Wednesday, with no casualty recorded.
The Head, Sokoto Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States, Alhaji Tukur Abubakar, confirmed the incident to newsmen at the scene.
He said that no death was recorded while nobody was also trapped under the rubble.
According to Tukur Abubakar, all the workers fled the scene when they observed that the ill-fated building was caving in.
“We thank God that nobody died as a result of the incident while no casualty was also recorded,” the NEMA top official said.
The NEMA Head of Operations explained further that other emergency responders who were at the scene of the incident included the Federal and Sokoto State Fire Services and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.
Others were the officials of the Sokoto State Ministries of Environment, Land and Housing, as well as the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) among others.
Abubakar said that emergency responders were quickly mobilized to cordon off the area and avert any secondary incident.
“The findings of our thorough investigations will however reveal the real causes of the building collapse,” he added.
The obnoxious phenomenon of building collapse has been recurring in Nigeria, often leading to massive loss of lives and properties.
Keen observers of the built industry have also been calling for stricter implementation of building laws across Nigeria, in order to stem the tide of such ugly incidents of building collapse.
