NHRC Chair Hails Gov. Idris’ Achievements in Infrastructure, Education, Agriculture

The Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and former Minister, Hajiya Salamatu Hussaini, has commended the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, for his remarkable achievements in infrastructure, education, and agriculture, describing his administration as one that continues to deliver meaningful development across the state.
She expressed confidence that the administration would, by the grace of God, record even greater successes, noting that the visible transformation taking place in Kebbi State reflects purposeful leadership and a strong commitment to the welfare of the people.
Speaking on infrastructure, Hajiya Salamatu said she was particularly impressed by the ultra-modern Kebbi State Secretariat, which she inspected during an official visit to the state alongside the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice for the commissioning of the National Human Rights Commission’s office in Kebbi.
She described the state secretariat as a world-class facility that would make every indigene proud, adding that only a few states in the country could boast of such an impressive edifice.
She also commended the improved road network and the general ambience of Birnin Kebbi, noting that members of the Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission, whom she led on the visit, were equally impressed by the level of development they witnessed.
According to her, although Governor Nasir Idris was unavoidably absent during the visit, the presence and active participation of the Secretary to the State Government, the State Attorney General, and other senior government officials throughout the two-day programme demonstrated the Governor’s commitment to inclusive governance and institutional development.
The NHRC Chairperson further applauded Governor Idris’ commitment to education, describing the sector as the foundation for addressing poverty, insecurity, and underdevelopment.
She disclosed that through her foundation, in partnership with the TY Danjuma Foundation and with the support of the Kebbi State Government, several educational interventions had been implemented, including the training of teachers and the establishment of two teacher training centres in Bunza and Argungu.
She noted that Governor Idris had sustained the support provided by previous administrations for educational initiatives and had continued to encourage partnerships aimed at improving learning outcomes. While commending the Governor’s efforts, she urged him to intensify measures to address the challenge of out-of-school children and expand access to education, particularly for the girl-child, stressing that education remains the key to the sustainable development of Kebbi State and Northern Nigeria as a whole.
Hajiya Salamatu further revealed that, as a member of the Board of the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC), she recently presented Governor Idris with a proposal to establish a professional training institute in Kebbi for accountants and stockbrokers to facilitate rapid economic development across Northern Nigeria.
She said the Governor warmly received the proposal and assured her of his personal commitment to providing the necessary support and infrastructure to ensure the successful establishment of the institute in the state.
She also commended the Governor’s continued support for farmers through the provision of agricultural inputs and other interventions, expressing optimism that sustained assistance, effective monitoring, and ongoing improvements in the agricultural sector would further enhance productivity, strengthen food security, and promote economic prosperity in Kebbi State.
Hajiya Salamatu Hussaini has served the nation in several strategic capacities, including as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commissioner at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). She is currently serving her second term as Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission. A lawyer by profession, she is also a passionate advocate for education and human capital development.
