Lion Stars Triumphs as Gov. Idris Boosts Youths Sports with Massive Support in Kebbi

The final match of the Kauran Gwandu Freekick Football Tournament was held on Sunday at the Birnin Kebbi Racecourse, with Lion Stars FC emerging victorious after defeating Ambel FC by three goals to one in a thrilling encounter.
The tournament was organised by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Suleiman Aliyu Mairubutu, as part of efforts to promote unity, peace, and youth engagement through sports development.
Speaking at the event, the organiser Suleiman Aliyu Mairubutu, expressed gratitude to Almighty God and commended the unwavering support of Governor Nasir Idris for sports development and youth empowerment across the state.
He noted that the present administration is people-oriented, with a strong commitment to uplifting young people, adding that his efforts to support youths are inspired by the Governor’s leadership.
Suleiman Aliyu Mairubutu disclosed that 13 teams participated in the competition and revealed that he personally donated N50,000 to each team to support their participation.
He further announced cash prizes for the top three teams, with Bolton FC, which placed third, receiving N100,000, a trophy, and a football; Ambel FC, which secured second position, receiving N200,000, a trophy, and a football; while Lion Stars FC, the overall winners, were awarded N300,000, a trophy, and a football.
While presenting the prizes to the winning teams, Governor Nasir Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining support for sports development in Kebbi State.
He commended the organiser, for his dedication and enthusiasm in promoting football and creating opportunities for youths to achieve their dreams through sports.
In a further demonstration of support, the Governor announced a donation of N2 million to each of the 13 participating teams. He also awarded additional cash prizes of N3 million to the third-place team, N4 million to the second-place team, and N5 million to the tournament winners.
The event attracted sports enthusiasts and community members, highlighting the growing interest in grassroots football development across the state.
