The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji (Dr) Yahaya Abubakar, CFR, has expressed sadness over the death of Sagi Nupe, Hajiya Aishetu Ndayako Makama, describing her demise as a great loss to her family, the Bida Emirate, Niger and the country at large.

Abubakar, who is also the Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, expressed his condolences in a message on Saturday.

He described the deceased as a woman who lived an accomplished and fulfilled life, noting that her contributions to the unity and development of the emirate would be remembered.

Hajiya Aishetu Makama, who died on Saturday at the age of 87, was a daughter of the late Etsu Nupe Muhammadu Bakudu, the ninth Etsu Nupe.

She was the first wife of the late Alhaji Abubakar Daniyan, who was the eldest son of the late Aliyu Makama Bida.

The royal father described the deceased as a committed technocrat, a patriotic woman and a detribalised Nigerian who placed the unity of the Bida Emirate above ethnic, political and religious differences.

“Though God has His reasons for taking her at this point in time, the people of the emirate have benefited immensely from her motherly advice, which will be greatly missed,” he said.

Abubakar urged the deceased’s family to sustain her good legacy, particularly her commitment to unity, peace and harmonious coexistence among the people.

The Etsu Nupe prayed Allah to forgive her shortcomings, grant her eternal rest and give her family, the Bida Emirate and all those affected by her death the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The Janazah (funeral) prayer for the deceased is scheduled to hold at 2 p.m. at the Umaru Majigi Central Mosque, Bida
